在紐約的中國(guó)城，有一個(gè)成立２８年的紐約中國(guó)民族樂(lè)團(tuán)，她固守著自己獨(dú)特的民族風(fēng)格，從不追星崇洋，以每年近３０場(chǎng)的示范演出，向華人及喜歡中國(guó)音樂(lè)的西方人士宣傳中國(guó)的傳統(tǒng)音樂(lè)?！凹~約中國(guó)民族樂(lè)團(tuán)”創(chuàng)辦于１９６１年，是全美歷史最悠久、規(guī)模最大的民樂(lè)團(tuán)體。樂(lè)團(tuán)團(tuán)長(zhǎng)、創(chuàng)辦人張銓念已７０多歲，他精于二胡、中胡、笙、簫、笛、箏、三弦等樂(lè)器，是紐約國(guó)樂(lè)界的前輩與高手，在港臺(tái)、紐約等地久負(fù)盛名。張銓念先生曾說(shuō)：孔夫子喜歡古琴，中國(guó)文人也很偏愛(ài)它，古琴具有很高的歷史價(jià)值和豐富的表現(xiàn)力。國(guó)樂(lè)有七音，古琴的按、捺、挑、撥可以變化出１００多個(gè)音來(lái)，應(yīng)該發(fā)揚(yáng)光大。張銓念先生退休后全身心投入到民樂(lè)普及工作中去，他有兩項(xiàng)絕招：一是他可以用流利的英語(yǔ)演說(shuō)，因?yàn)榘霐?shù)以上的觀(guān)眾是西方人；再是精彩表演，演出結(jié)束之后并公開(kāi)與聽(tīng)眾交談，回答問(wèn)題，臺(tái)上臺(tái)下可以相互溝通，可以讓觀(guān)眾上臺(tái)學(xué)習(xí)各種樂(lè)器的演奏，也可以由演員走近觀(guān)眾。樂(lè)團(tuán)一次受邀在賓州的國(guó)際藝術(shù)節(jié)演出，因?yàn)槊看沃辽倏梢詳y帶６件以上中國(guó)樂(lè)器，僅這一點(diǎn)就不僅征服了西方觀(guān)聽(tīng)眾，而且臺(tái)上臺(tái)下融為一體把演出推向高潮。樂(lè)團(tuán)在一次與布魯克賽交響樂(lè)團(tuán)合作演出的晚會(huì)上，一位老華僑聽(tīng)完中國(guó)樂(lè)器演奏后，流著淚水寫(xiě)下了一首詩(shī)，讓觀(guān)眾產(chǎn)生了廣泛的藝術(shù)共鳴：
《游子吟》
病痛時(shí)，我正被流放；
弦上的音更像一張大網(wǎng)。
思緒撒向夢(mèng)的深處，
也無(wú)法網(wǎng)住親愛(ài)的故鄉(xiāng)。
遙遠(yuǎn)的家，
游子的夢(mèng)。
被連根拔起的一棵草，
曾往回家的路上長(zhǎng)，

THE CHINESE MUSIC ENSEMBLE OF NEW YORK
Founded in 1961 by the Director Emeritus Tsuan-nien Chang, THE CHINESE MUSIC ENSEMBLE OF NEW YORK has grown from a few music lovers to the oldest and largest Chinese orchestra in the United States. Its present director is Yu-chiung Teng and its membership of over forty-five members consists of both amateur and professional musicians, who play practically every type of Chinese musical instrument. Recognized as the only full scale Chinese orchestra in the United States, the Ensemble maintains its standard of excellence through a program of musical exchanges with professional musicians in China, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. One of the main objectives of THE CHINESE MUSIC ENSEMBLE is to introduce the music of China to Western audiences.
This album makes for very pleasant listening, and quite readily proves false the myth that Chinese vocal music is little more than "nasal screeching." Culled from the vast and varied repetoire of Chinese folk music and cinema, "Beloved Chinese Songs" captures the many moods expressed in these genres -- exuberant, wistful, humorous, poignant. The Chinese Music Ensemble of New York is truly an "army of generals," performing these pieces with both the sensitivity and exuberance requisite of such music, as well as with the technical mastery achieved by only the best of musicians.
