Great White在80年代初就已成立Jack Russell和Mark Kendall確立了樂隊Blues-Hard Rock的音樂風格就像Led Zeppelin或者AC/DC這樣的經(jīng)典樂隊一樣樂隊初期自然只能在一些小俱樂部里演出但他們扎實的功底使得人們對他們刮目相看1983年Great White獨立出版了首張EPOut of the Night該EP取得銷量20.000多張的好成績同時在當?shù)氐囊魳冯娕_里的播放率也很高樂隊隨后與EMI America簽約在1984年推出同名專輯Great White當年樂隊跟隨Whitesnake樂隊開始第一次歐洲巡演然后又和Judas Priest樂隊一道進行美國巡演
