Pentatonix為來自德克薩斯州阿靈頓的無伴奏合唱組合（簡稱PTX），共有五位成員，包括：主唱 (男中音) - Scott Hoying，主唱 (次女高音) - Kirstie Maldonado，主唱 (男高音) - Mitch Grassi，Beatbox / 大提琴手 (男中音) - Kevin Olusola 和新成員貝斯 (男低音) - Matt Sallee，原成員貝斯 (男低音) Avi Kaplan 于2017年5月12日宣布離開。
該團以完美的默契度所演唱的和聲，足以媲美樂隊伴奏的樂曲。同時，該組合的音樂領(lǐng)域極為豐富，包括搖滾樂、電子樂、雷鬼音樂、鄉(xiāng)村音樂、朋克等，每一種風格的音樂作品在他們的演唱之下都富含新穎的內(nèi)涵，使人產(chǎn)生耳目一新的感覺。并且該隊打破了阿卡貝拉的固有傳統(tǒng)，用人聲涉足流行樂壇，引領(lǐng)了阿卡貝拉界的新潮流。
2012年1月，PTX開始在Youtube開設(shè)頻道，發(fā)布涵蓋囊括流行樂和古典音樂的阿卡貝拉翻唱視頻，其中包括Gotye的《Somebody that I Used to Know》、PSY的《Gangnam Style》以及Fun的《We are Young》，傳播度極高。
萬眾期待的首張錄音室專輯于2012年6月26日發(fā)行，在美國公告板200排行榜上位居14位，Digital Chart位居第5位。專輯發(fā)行的首周就賣出了20000份，他們通過設(shè)在好萊塢的記者見面會、VH1 The Buzz電臺、Marie電臺以及當?shù)仉娨暪?jié)目推廣專輯。PTX也在中國版的《The Sing-Off》中擔任演出嘉賓，在節(jié)目中，Kevin Olusola秀出了他所引以為豪的流利普通話。

該團隊剛剛結(jié)束了2013年1月24日至5月14日的第二次全國巡回演唱，同時也把更多的素材寫進于2013年秋季發(fā)行的第二張錄音室專輯中。
該團隊還委聘與其他藝人進行合作，2013年3月，PTX發(fā)行了封面印有小提琴演奏家Lindsey Stirling的封面的專輯的龍吟幻想小調(diào)“Radioactive”，該專輯發(fā)布就位列美國公告板的榜首。
2013年10月2日，他們在Youtube上發(fā)布了翻唱Lorde歌曲《Royals》的視頻。
第三張正式EP專輯《PTX, Vol. II》于2013年11月5日正式發(fā)布，包含四首翻唱歌曲，其中就不乏傳統(tǒng)度極高的Macklemore &Ryan Lewis的《Can't Hold Us》、經(jīng)典樂隊Daft Punk（蠢朋克）的作品串燒（這首串燒獲得了格萊美獎，并且在油管上得到病毒式傳播）、四首原創(chuàng)歌曲：《Natural Disaster》、《Love Again》、《Hey Momma》和《Run to You》，額外歌曲是Swedish House Mafia的歌曲混搭《Save the World/Don't You Worry Child》。在2013年11月的“艾倫秀”（艾倫·德杰尼勒斯主持）上，PTX宣傳了這張專輯，此前他們在Youtube上發(fā)布了碧昂絲的歌曲串燒《The Evolution of Beyoncé》（女神演繹）病毒視頻，連碧昂絲本人對PTX的精彩演繹大加贊賞。

第五張專輯《That's Christmas to Me》在2014年10月21日正式發(fā)行，取得了美國唱片協(xié)會白金唱片認證，加拿大金唱片認證，更是打榜年度專輯第四，僅次于Taylor Swift《1989》、Frozen大碟、Sam Smith《In The Lonely Hour》。這是PTX生涯的一次飛躍，專輯成績令人欣喜，更多人開始關(guān)注這個阿卡貝拉界的新旋風。
2014年可謂是PTX生涯的一個豐收年，不僅發(fā)售了兩張專輯（圣誕專銷量極高），參加了AMA，格萊美等重大音樂盛會，更是去白宮肯尼迪中心榮譽獎現(xiàn)場演出，在總統(tǒng)奧巴馬和第一夫人米歇爾的面前表演了《That Thing You Do》。他們還在電影《完美音調(diào)2》中出演加拿大阿卡貝拉團客串了一把。
2015年2月，Pentatonix憑借翻唱混曲代表作“daft punk”贏得了格萊美BEST ARRANGEMENT, INSTRUMENTAL OR A CAPPELLA的獎項。這首全人聲的混曲收錄于vol.2，在Youtube上得到了病毒式傳播。而令人驚訝地是該曲MV在成員Avi和Kevin公寓的廚房里完成拍攝，錄音則是在臥室的柜子里完成的。這是一座里程碑，也是一個新起步，這證明了任何喜愛音樂的團體都有可能走向巔峰，完成夢想。PTX也將從翻唱主打逐漸走向原創(chuàng)歌曲，第六張原創(chuàng)專輯《Pentatonix》在2015年10月發(fā)行，備受關(guān)注。同月發(fā)行單曲“That's Christmas to Me: Deluxe Tracks”。
2016年樂隊憑借單曲“Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”榮獲格萊美最佳器樂編曲。同年提名尼克頻道兒童選擇獎最受歡迎音樂組合，單曲“Cheerleader”提名IHeartRadio音樂大獎年度最佳翻唱單曲，歌曲“Evolution of Michael Jackson”提名威比獎最佳視頻混音/混搭。
Pentatonix (abbreviated PTX) is an American a cappella group from Arlington, Texas, consisting of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee. Avi Kaplan was formerly a member of the group; he was replaced by Sallee in 2017.
Their work, which is mostly in the pop style, consists of covers of existing songs, sometimes in the form of medleys, along with their original material. Their music is defined by their own arrangement style, tight vocal harmonies, extensive vocal riffing, deep and steady vocal basslines, and a diverse range of vocal percussion and beatboxing.
Pentatonix formed in 2011 and came to prominence the same year by winning the third season of The Sing-Off on NBC, their victory earning them $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music. After being dropped from Epic after The Sing-Off, the group formed their popular YouTube channel and distributed their music through Madison Gate Records, a small independent label owned by Sony Pictures that mainly distributes movie soundtracks. The group also makes effective use of social media to interact with their fan base.
Having now eclipsed 10.5 million subscribers and more than 1.54 billion total views, Pentatonix's official YouTube channel is currently the 13th most subscribed music video channel and the 44th most subscribed channel overall, with their most viewed music video being a tribute to Daft Punk that has accumulated over 200 million views.
Their debut EP PTX, Volume 1 was released in 2012, followed by their holiday release PTXmas the same year, with Pentatonix's third release, PTX, Vol. II, debuting at number 1 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart and number 10 on the Billboard 200 in 2013. In May 2014, Pentatonix signed with RCA Records, a "flagship" label of Sony Music Entertainment, while in the same year, the group released their fourth EP, PTX, Vol. III, and two full-length studio albums; PTX, Vols. 1 & 2, a compilation album released in Japan, Korea and Australia, and their second holiday release, That's Christmas to Me, with the album certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), platinum on December 24, 2014, and double platinum on February 11, 2016, becoming the highest-charting holiday album by a group since 1962, and the fourth-best-selling album in the United States in 2014.The following year, Pentatonix released their eponymous album, their first consisting mostly of original material, which debuted atop the US Billboard 200 chart for the first time in their career.
Pentatonix, together with music producer and arranger Ben Bram, won the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella twice, first in 2015 for "Daft Punk" at the 57th Grammy Awards, and then again in 2016 for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" at the 58th Grammy Awards; they are the only a capella band to have won the award.
On April 14, 2016 the music video was released for Pentatonix's cover with Jason Derulo of Shai (band)'s "If I Ever Fall In Love".
Members of Pentatonix appeared on the Fox television show Bones, in the episode "The Strike In The Chord" that originally aired on May 19, 2016.
