The Alvaret Ensemble is a collective based around the musicians Greg Haines, Romke Kleefstra, Sytze Pruiksma and poet Jan Kleefstra, often expanding to include other musicians from around the world.
In the summer of 2011 the group started recording in the Berlin Grunewald church, with a cast of musicians including Iden Reinhart, Hilary Jeffery, Peter Broderick, Nils Frahm and Martyn Heyne. These recordings will be published on the double debut album of The Alvaret Ensemble on Denovali Records, scheduled for early 2013.
Meanwhile the quartet was invited by the Dutch festival Oerol to do an artist in residence project on Iceland, joined by the Icelandic musician friends Kira Kira, Borgar Magnason, Ingi Garðar Erlendsson and Eiríkur Orri Ólafsson, along with the video collective 33 1/3.
