Jon Richards is a UK-based instrumental artist, specialising in melodic, instrumental music, that spans a broad range of genres. His music has been compared in style to Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Deep Forest, Enigma, Alan Parsons, Medwyn Goodall, Pink Floyd and Mike Oldfield.
Profoundly affected by music from a very early age, Jon took up private piano lessons and throughout his formative years, he played in many bands and wrote and arranged music for local theatre companies.
In 2008, Jon was signed to R Cat Records and released two albums with them, namely "Pangea" and "Transmigration". The relationship with this label didn't last long and he decided to leave and try his luck elsewhere. In 2010 he got a lucky break when New Age Music legend, Medwyn Goodall, recognised his unique talent and promptly signed him to MG Music.
In 2011, Jon released "Elysian Fields" and followed it up in 2012 with "The Sacred Tree".
Jons early influences include Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Tomita, Peter Gabriel, Yes, Rush, Barclay James Harvest and Jean-Michel Jarre. He has been known to state in interviews that he enjoys crossing the boundaries of genres and creating musical hybrids. As a result, his music is often difficult to catagorise.
"I like to keep things fresh, by providing subtle changes throughout the course of a piece", he states, "it isn't always the job of a New Age, or instrumental artist, to send people to sleep! There's nothing in the rule book that says that we can't be vibrant and stimulating as well."
