by MacKenzie WilsonScapegoat Wax is the brainchild of artist Marty James, and he's been making a name for himself since his studying days at Chico State University. He initially began making music in his early teens and wrote his first song at age 13. By 16, he was slicing and dicing on his own technics, programming drum beats, and sequencing dubs. Luxurious (1999) marked Scapegoat Wax's serious move into recording, and such hard work paid off. Beastie Boy Mike D. took notice to the heavy hip-hop funkadelics of Scapegoat Wax and signed him to Grand Royal. Scapegoat Wax also focused on his voice, and the singer/songwriter side of Marty James became his signature. Okeeblow signified his quick rise and impressive urban electronic grooves in summer 2001, but the record was sadly ignored due to the closing of Grand Royal. Hollywood Records showed interest however, and James put together Swax for a fall release the next year.
