by Jason AnkenyContemporary folk singer/songwriter Bob Cheevers was born and raised in Memphis; relocating to California after graduating college, he landed a solo deal with Dot Records, soon after resurfacing as the frontman of the bubblegum group Peppermint Trolley Company. Though scoring a minor hit with "Baby You Come Rollin' Across My Mind" and issuing a self-titled LP on Acta in 1968, the band was perhaps best known for performing the theme songs for the hit television comedies Love, American Style and (during its first season) The Brady Bunch; after the Peppermint Trolley Company went bust, Cheevers worked as a staff songwriter with publishers including MCA Music and Cobra Music, continuing to perform at area showcases as well. In 1991 he moved to Nashville, three years later winning the Kerrville New Folk Competiton; in 1997 he issued his comeback LP Gettysburg to Graceland, followed in 1999 by The Stories I Write.
